Lyrics
MaPa
Here is the story
Of Mary and Phil
Or Mill and Phary
Better still
They started life, with so little
Yet their wealth, it lay, in their soul
Her parents from Greece
Followed old ways
His, the Mid-East
Exactly the same
Ellis Island, was how they came
New York City, their new home
Strong willed woman, an honest man
This is how, their story began
He was one, of a big crew
She was one, of just two
He came back
From service in war
A pressman in fact
But so much more
To be an artist, to paint and draw
That was, his young man’s, dream
She worked hard
Her numbers were good
Independent at heart
When few understood
Smart and sharp, learned all she could
Lady of business, she hoped to be
But never a date, did she refuse
He the artist, made her his muse
It wasn’t long, they tied the knot
Together, their life would start
Husband and wife, MaPa for three
My brother and sister and I came to be
They made a life, a family
All their own
Off to the press
He would go
She handled the rest
The kids and the home
Learning to manage, as they go
Day by day, year by year
Then came our teens
We weren’t the best
Making a scene
Put them, to the test
Even with that, and all the rest
They chose, to always, be there
Dreams can change, as time flows
Now his paints, sat back in the row
Her young hopes, had been put away
Maybe, for another day
Kids all grown
And out in the world
With kids of their own
A boy and a girl
Hoping to find, wisdom’s pearl
Same as they, were blessed, to see
And now the nest
Is empty at last
It took forever
But went way too fast
Less ahead, more in the past
Time had come, those golden years
I’m so happy, that I had
My mother & father, as mom and dad
I only hope, in us they can see
All they meant us to be
Husband and wife, MaPa for three
My brother and sister and I came to see
They gave up so much, so we could be
In the world
MaPa, My Mom and Pop
MaPa, My Mom and Pop
MaPa, My Mom and Pop
MaPa, My Ma and Pa
